Listening notes

Released in 2023 on Polydor (catalog number 5843144), the Pur Vinyl-Box Volume 1 (1983 - 1988) is a four-LP box set collecting material from the German act's first five years of recorded output. The set spans the genres of pop, pop rock, and rock, and draws from four albums: Opus 1 (1983), Vorsicht Zerbrechlich (1985), Pur (1987), and Wie Im Film (1988).

The box is organized across eight sides, labeled A through H, with each album occupying two sides. The first record presents the nine tracks of Opus 1, opening with the nearly six-minute "Im Nebel" and closing side B with the brief "Es Wird Einmal" at one minute and fifty-eight seconds. Vorsicht Zerbrechlich follows on the second record across eleven tracks spread over sides C and D, including "Im Labyrinth" at five minutes and thirteen seconds, one of the longer entries on that disc. The third record carries the self-titled 1987 album across sides E and F, with ten tracks including "Drachen Sollen Fliegen" at five minutes and twenty-three seconds. The fourth record closes the set with Wie Im Film on sides G and H, featuring ten tracks and the longest single entry in the collection, "Wenn Sie Diesen Tango Hört," running five minutes and fifty-three seconds.

In total the box contains forty tracks, with individual track durations ranging from under two minutes to just over six minutes. The set represents a straightforward chronological survey of the band's catalog through 1988 in a single physical package.
