Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Polydor (catalog number 827 987-1), Finyl Vinyl is a vinyl compilation from Rainbow presented across a double LP format — fourteen tracks spread over four sides. The release falls under the hard rock and rock genres.

The tracklist draws from different points in the band's catalog, though the specific studio albums or live sources for these recordings are not detailed here. Side A opens with "Spotlight Kid" at five minutes, followed by "I Surrender" at five minutes and forty-five seconds, and "Miss Mistreated" at three minutes and twenty-one seconds. Side B carries five tracks: "Jealous Lover," "Can't Happen Here," the extended "Tearin' Out My Heart" at eight minutes and four seconds, "Since You Been Gone," and "Bad Girl."

The second disc leads with Side C, which is anchored by "Difficult To Cure," the longest track on the release at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds. That side also includes "Stone Cold" and "Power." Side D closes the set with "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and twenty seconds, "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" at seven minutes and twelve seconds, and "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds.

The four longest tracks — "Difficult To Cure," "Man On The Silver Mountain," "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll," and "Tearin' Out My Heart" — each exceed seven minutes, giving the second disc in particular a noticeably different pacing compared to the tighter sequencing of the first. Total runtime across the four sides is substantial, reflecting a release clearly intended as a comprehensive document of the band's work rather than a brief sampler.

Finyl Vinyl was issued the same year Rainbow disbanded, in 1986.
