Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Polydor (catalog number 827 987-1), Finyl Vinyl is a vinyl compilation from Rainbow presented across four sides of a double album. The release falls under the hard rock and rock genres, and its title — a play on "final vinyl" — signals its character as a career-retrospective collection, arriving at the point of the band's dissolution.

The tracklist spans thirteen recordings and runs a considerable total duration, with side lengths that vary notably from one another. Side A opens with "Spotlight Kid" at five minutes, followed by "I Surrender" at five minutes and forty-five seconds, and closes with "Miss Mistreated" at three minutes and twenty-one seconds. Side B moves from "Jealous Lover" and "Tearin' Out My Heart" — the latter an extended eight-minute-four-second track — through "Since You Been Gone" and "Bad Girl." Side C is anchored by "Difficult To Cure," which at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds is the longest entry on the release, followed by "Stone Cold" and "Power." Side D carries "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and twenty seconds, "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" at seven minutes and twelve seconds, and closes with "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds.

The sequencing places the two longest individual tracks — "Difficult To Cure" and "Tearin' Out My Heart" — each as the opening track of their respective sides, a structural choice that gives both sides C and B an extended centerpiece around which shorter material is arranged.

The four-side format accommodates over seventy minutes of programming across its thirteen tracks, a capacity that a standard single album release would not support. This draft has not been reviewed for factual accuracy and should be verified before publication.
