Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Polydor (catalog number 827 987-2), Finyl Vinyl is a compilation from Rainbow presented here in its CD format. Spanning thirteen tracks and catalogued under the genres of blues rock, hard rock, and rock, the release draws from across the band's catalog to assemble a substantial single-disc collection.

The running order opens with "Spotlight Kid" at just over six minutes and moves through a sequence that balances shorter tracks with more extended pieces. "I Surrender," "Miss Mistreated," "Jealous Lover," "Can't Happen Here," "Since You Been Gone," and "Bad Girl" occupy the middle portion of the disc, ranging from just over three minutes to just under five. The longest entry on the compilation is "Difficult To Cure," clocking in at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds, giving it considerable weight within the overall sequence. "Stone Cold" and "Power" follow before the disc closes out with three tracks that stretch the runtime further: "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and sixteen seconds, "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" at seven minutes and eight seconds, and "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and fifteen seconds.

In total, the thirteen tracks account for a generous runtime, with several selections running well beyond conventional single length. The sequencing places the compilation's longest track near the center rather than at the close, a structural choice that gives the second half a different character in terms of individual track duration.

For collectors and researchers, the Polydor catalog number 827 987-2 serves as the primary identifier for this pressing. As a CD release dated to 1986, it represents an early appearance of this compilation in the compact disc format.
