Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Rainbow's Finyl Vinyl, released on Polydor (catalog number 827 987-2), is a CD compilation drawing from the band's catalog across the classic rock, hard rock, and rock genres. The release brings together thirteen tracks with a combined runtime that stretches well past an hour, making it a substantive document of the group's recorded output.

The tracklist spans what appears to be multiple eras of the band's work, touching on material associated with different stylistic phases. Early fan favorites sit alongside more commercially oriented titles. "Man On The Silver Mountain" runs to 8:16 and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" clocks in at 7:08, both suggesting extended or live renditions rather than standard studio edits. The longest entry by a considerable margin is "Difficult To Cure," which occupies 11:15 of the disc. At the other end of the spectrum, "Jealous Lover" is the briefest selection at 3:10, while tracks like "Since You Been Gone," "Stone Cold," and "Can't Happen Here" fall in the three-to-four-minute range more typical of the band's accessible, radio-oriented material.

The title Finyl Vinyl carries an obvious pun on the format the band's studio work originally appeared on, though this release itself is a CD pressing rather than a vinyl issue. Whether the name predates this specific pressing or originated with an earlier vinyl configuration is a question the available data does not resolve and should be verified.

The Polydor catalog number 827 987-2 is the identifying reference for this edition. No release year is confirmed in the available data, and that detail should be established before publication. Personnel, recording locations, and production credits are likewise unconfirmed here and would strengthen any final entry considerably.
