Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Mercury Records (catalog number 827 987 1M2), Finyl Vinyl is a hard rock and rock compilation from Rainbow presented as a double album across four sides of vinyl.

The set spans fourteen tracks with a total runtime that reflects genuine breadth. Side A opens with "Spotlight Kid" at five minutes, followed by "I Surrender" at five minutes and forty-five seconds, and "Miss Mistreated" at three minutes and twenty-one seconds. Side B carries five tracks: "Jealous Lover," "Can't Happen Here," "Tearin' Out My Heart," "Since You Been Gone," and "Bad Girl," with "Tearin' Out My Heart" running the longest of the four sides at eight minutes and four seconds.

The second record opens on Side C with "Difficult To Cure," the single longest track on the release at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds, followed by "Stone Cold" and "Power." Side D closes the compilation with "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and twenty seconds, "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" at seven minutes and twelve seconds, and "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds.

The sequencing places the most expansive material on the later sides, with Side C and Side D together accounting for a substantial portion of the overall runtime. The track "Difficult To Cure" at over eleven minutes and "Man On The Silver Mountain" at over eight minutes suggest the compiler made deliberate room for extended material rather than favoring brevity across all selections.

As a vinyl release, the four-side format distributes the program across two records under the Mercury imprint, which was the label carrying Rainbow at the time of this compilation's release.
