Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Rainbow's Finyl Vinyl was released in 1986 on Mercury Records, catalog number 827 987-4 M-1, as a cassette format compilation. The title's punning nod to vinyl — despite the format being tape — marks it as a retrospective assembled near the end of the band's original run, gathering fifteen tracks drawn from across their catalog in the hard rock and rock genres.

The A-side carries nine tracks: "Spotlight Kid," "I Surrender," "Miss Mistreated," "Street of Dreams," "Jealous Lover," "Can't Happen Here," "Tearin' Out My Heart," "Since You Been Gone," and "Bad Girl." The B-side opens with "Difficult to Cure" and continues through "Stone Cold," "Power," "Man on the Silver Mountain," "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll," and closes with "Weiss Heim," bringing the total to fifteen tracks across both sides. The sequencing places some of the band's more commercially oriented material on the A-side, while the B-side reaches toward earlier and more instrumentally ambitious territory, including "Man on the Silver Mountain" and the closing "Weiss Heim."

No track durations are documented in the available data for this release. Collectors and researchers consulting this entry should note that the catalog number references a cassette pressing specifically, and any documentation of corresponding vinyl or CD configurations would require separate verification under distinct catalog numbers.

As with any compilation, this release warrants scrutiny regarding which lineup periods and source albums each track represents — details that a fact checker should confirm against Rainbow's full discography before this entry is finalized.
