Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Rainbow's Finyl Vinyl, released on Polydor in 1986 under catalog number 29 MM 4501/2, is a double-album compilation spanning four sides of vinyl. Falling under the hard rock and rock genres, the set draws its title from a phonetic play on the word "final," a wink at the format on which it was issued.

The fourteen tracks are distributed across two records, with Sides A and B occupying the first and Sides C and D the second. Side A opens with "Spotlight Kid" at five minutes, followed by "I Surrender" at five minutes and forty-five seconds and "Miss Mistreated" at three minutes and twenty-one seconds. Side B carries five tracks: "Jealous Lover," "Can't Happen Here," "Tearin' Out My Heart," "Since You Been Gone," and "Bad Girl," the longest of the five running just over eight minutes.

Side C is anchored by "Difficult To Cure," which at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds is the lengthiest selection on the entire compilation. It is joined by "Stone Cold" and "Power." Side D closes the set with "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and twenty seconds, "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" at seven minutes and twelve seconds, and "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds.

In terms of runtime, the collection leans toward extended performances, with several tracks surpassing the four-minute mark and three exceeding seven minutes. The total running time across all four sides is substantial, reflecting a release designed to offer considerable length within the double-album format.
