Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Polydor, Finyl Vinyl is a Rainbow compilation bearing the catalog number P38P-20040. Issued on CD, it collects thirteen tracks drawn from the band's catalog across the hard rock and rock genres.

The tracklist runs from "Spotlight Kid" at five minutes through to closing track "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds, covering a considerable span of Rainbow's recorded output. Among the selections are "I Surrender" at five minutes and forty-five seconds, "Since You Been Gone" at three minutes and forty seconds, and "Stone Cold" at four minutes and thirty seconds. The compilation also includes "Man On The Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll," running eight minutes and twenty seconds and seven minutes and twelve seconds respectively, alongside the extended "Difficult To Cure," which occupies eleven minutes and fifteen seconds and stands as the longest entry on the disc. Shorter tracks round out the sequence, among them "Miss Mistreated" at three minutes and twenty-one seconds and "Jealous Lover" at three minutes and ten seconds.

In total the thirteen tracks account for a substantial runtime, with the sequencing moving between briefer selections and more extended pieces. The title itself, a phonetic play on the word final combined with a nod to vinyl, suggests the release was positioned as a summative document of the group's work, though the verified facts on hand do not speak to the specific circumstances surrounding its compilation or the band's status at the time of release.

This CD pressing, issued through Polydor's Japanese catalog under the P38P prefix, represents one documented configuration of the release. Researchers and collectors should verify additional regional variations, personnel credits, and any supplementary liner documentation independently.
