Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Rainbow's Finyl Vinyl was released on the Polydor label in 2012 under catalog number UICY-25172/3. Issued as a two-disc CD set, the compilation falls within the hard rock and rock genres and draws its tracklist from the band's catalog across what the title playfully signals as a retrospective gathering.

The first disc opens with "Spotlight Kid" at just over six minutes and moves through nine tracks in total, including "I Surrender," "Miss Mistreated," "Street Of Dreams," and "Since You Been Gone." The disc closes with "Bad Girl," bringing its runtime to a varied spread of shorter and longer selections. "Tearin' Out My Heart" is the longest entry on disc one at eight minutes and five seconds, while "Jealous Lover" is the briefest at three minutes and ten seconds.

Disc two carries six tracks and accounts for some of the set's most extended material. "Difficult To Cure" runs eleven minutes and thirteen seconds, making it the longest single track across both discs. The second disc also includes "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and eighteen seconds and "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" at seven minutes and seven seconds, alongside "Stone Cold," "Power," and "Weiss Heim."

Across both discs the set totals fifteen tracks, with combined programming that reflects a range of tempos and track lengths. The two-disc structure and the spread of material place shorter radio-formatted tracks alongside extended pieces, though the verified facts on hand do not speak to the original sources or contexts of the individual recordings.
