Listening notes
Released by Polydor in 1986 under catalog number 827 987-4, Finyl Vinyl is a cassette compilation from Rainbow spanning the hard rock and rock genres. The release arrives as a career retrospective, drawing its sixteen tracks from across the band's catalog and presenting them across two sides of tape.
Side A opens with "Spotlight Kid" at five minutes and moves through a sequence that includes "I Surrender," "Miss Mistreated," "Street of Dreams," and "Jealous Lover" before continuing with "Can't Happen Here" and the extended "Tearin' Out My Heart," which runs just over eight minutes. The side closes with "Since You Been Gone" and "Bad Girl," the latter clocking in at four minutes and forty-eight seconds.
Side B carries some of the compilation's longer material. It opens with "Difficult to Cure," the release's longest track at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds, and continues through "Stone Cold," "Power," and an eight-minute-twenty-second version of "Man on the Silver Mountain." "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" follows at seven minutes and twelve seconds, and the compilation concludes with "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds.
Taken together, the tracklist accounts for just over ninety-four minutes of material across the two sides. The sequencing places shorter tracks predominantly on Side A and concentrates several of the longer, extended pieces on Side B. As a cassette release, Finyl Vinyl represents one format in which Polydor made this compilation available during 1986, the year the title was issued.
