Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Polydor, Rainbow's Finyl Vinyl (catalog number A20-POL) is a double-album vinyl compilation spanning four sides and fourteen tracks drawn from the band's catalog of hard rock recordings. The release arrived the same year Rainbow disbanded, giving the set a retrospective character that its title — a pun on the format itself — makes plain.

The tracklist runs across sides A through D and covers a broad stretch of Rainbow's recorded output. Familiar titles appear throughout: "I Surrender," "Since You Been Gone," "Stone Cold," and "Man On The Silver Mountain" are among the tracks included, alongside "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" and the instrumental "Difficult To Cure," which at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds is the longest entry on the record. "Weiss Heim" closes out side D at five minutes and ten seconds.

A notable feature of this particular pressing is that every track carries a Spanish-language title alongside its original English equivalent. "I Surrender" becomes "Me Rindo," "Since You Been Gone" appears as "Desde Que Tu Te Has Ido," and so on across all fourteen selections. This bilingual titling distinguishes A20-POL as a pressing evidently aimed at Spanish-speaking markets, though the data on hand does not specify the country of manufacture or distribution territory.

The four-sided format gives the release a combined running time that accommodates both shorter album cuts and extended pieces without compression. Side B is the most densely programmed, carrying five tracks, while sides A and C each hold three and side D closes with three.

As a snapshot of Rainbow's career compiled at the moment of the group's dissolution, Finyl Vinyl presents a cross-section of the band's work in a format suited to the market it addressed. Collectors and researchers consulting this pressing should verify territory-specific details independently, as the available documentation does not confirm all pressing particulars.
