Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Polydor (catalog number 827 987-2), Finyl Vinyl is a compilation from Rainbow presented here in its CD format. Falling under the hard rock and rock genres, the release brings together thirteen tracks spanning a considerable range of the band's catalog.

The tracklist opens with "Spotlight Kid" at just over six minutes and moves through a sequence that includes "I Surrender," "Miss Mistreated," and "Jealous Lover" before reaching "Can't Happen Here" and "Since You Been Gone." The back half of the disc is notable for its runtime variation: "Difficult To Cure" runs to eleven minutes and fifteen seconds, making it the longest entry on the release by a significant margin, while tracks such as "Jealous Lover" and "Since You Been Gone" come in well under four minutes.

The selection also includes "Man On The Silver Mountain" at eight minutes and sixteen seconds and "Long Live Rock 'N' Roll" at seven minutes and eight seconds, both of which extend well beyond the average track length here. The disc closes with "Weiss Heim," which runs five minutes and fifteen seconds. In total, the thirteen tracks account for a substantial combined runtime that makes practical use of the CD format's capacity.

At the time of this release, the CD format was still establishing itself as a standard delivery medium for catalog and compilation titles, and Polydor's decision to issue Finyl Vinyl in this format placed it within that broader industry transition. Beyond format and tracklist, the verified facts on hand do not extend to personnel, recording context, or chart performance, and those areas should be confirmed independently before publication.
