Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Polydor (catalog number 827 987-1), Finyl Vinyl is a vinyl compilation from Rainbow spanning the hard rock, heavy metal, and rock genres. The release is a double album, spread across four sides, and brings together fourteen tracks drawn from the band's catalog.

The track listing runs a considerable combined length, with several extended pieces anchoring the collection. Side C opens with "Difficult To Cure" at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds, the longest entry on the record. "Man On The Silver Mountain" on Side D runs eight minutes and twenty seconds, and "Tearin' Out My Heart" occupies eight minutes and four seconds on Side B. "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll," also on Side D, extends to seven minutes and twelve seconds. These longer tracks give the double-LP format a practical justification, as the runtime across all four sides is substantial.

The remaining tracks range from the shorter end — "Jealous Lover" at three minutes and ten seconds and "Miss Mistreated" at three minutes and twenty-one seconds — through to mid-length pieces such as "I Surrender" at five minutes and forty-five seconds, "Bad Girl" at four minutes and forty-eight seconds, and "Can't Happen Here" at four minutes and fifteen seconds. Side D closes with "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds.

The title Finyl Vinyl carries an evident play on the word "final," released the same year the band dissolved. The four-sided vinyl format, the Polydor imprint, and the sequencing across sides A through D are the fixed reference points this pressing offers collectors and researchers. No additional verified information regarding personnel, recording origins, or chart performance is available within the confirmed data for this entry.
