Rainbow
Finyl Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on PolyGram (catalog number 827 987-1), Finyl Vinyl is a vinyl compilation from Rainbow, the hard rock and rock band. The release spans three sides of music across what the track layout indicates is a double LP format, with a total of fourteen tracks distributed across four sides.

The sequencing places six tracks across sides A and B, followed by three tracks on side C and three on side D. The runtime varies considerably across the selection. Side C opens with "Difficult To Cure" at eleven minutes and fifteen seconds, the longest track on the set, while side D closes with "Weiss Heim" at five minutes and ten seconds. "Man On The Silver Mountain" and "Long Live Rock 'n' Roll" each extend past seven minutes on the final side, giving the fourth record a noticeably different pacing than the first. By contrast, "Jealous Lover" on side B runs three minutes and ten seconds, among the shortest entries on the compilation.

Titles represented here include "I Surrender," "Since You Been Gone," "Stone Cold," "Miss Mistreated," "Can't Happen Here," "Bad Girl," "Power," "Spotlight Kid," "Tearin' Out My Heart," and "Jealous Lover," alongside the longer pieces already noted. The tracklist draws from across Rainbow's catalog, though the specific studio albums or recording periods these tracks originate from are not confirmed within the scope of this entry and should be verified independently.

The title Finyl Vinyl is a noted play on the word "final," and the 1986 release date places this compilation in the period following Rainbow's dissolution. Researchers and collectors seeking personnel details, original release contexts for individual tracks, or pressing variant information should consult primary sources before relying on this draft.
