Listening notes
Released in 2019 on Ear Music Classics (catalog number 0214466EMX), Treasures – A Vinyl Collection is a six-LP box set from Rainbow compiling four discrete live recordings: Live In Munich 1977, Monsters Of Rock: Live At Donington 1980, Live In Japan 1984, and Live In Birmingham 2016. The set falls under the hard rock and rock genres.
The sequencing of the box set traces a span of nearly four decades of live activity. The Munich 1977 portion occupies the first five sides (A through E) and is notable for its extended running times: "Catch The Rainbow" runs 18:15 on side B, "Man On The Silver Mountain" stretches to 16:26 on side C, and "Still I'm Sad" accounts for the entirety of side D at 27:32. Side E closes that portion with "Do You Close Your Eyes" at 15:36.
The Donington 1980 material runs across sides G through J, with side F absent from the listed sequence. That recording includes "Since You Been Gone," "Stargazer," and extended segments credited to individual soloists, alongside a brief "Blues" passage of 1:13 and a "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" performance at 3:02.
The Japan 1984 recording spans sides K through P and is the longest discrete portion of the set, covering eight sides. It includes "Difficult To Cure (Beethoven's Ninth)" at 11:18, a dedicated guitar solo side, a drum solo, and closing entries that incorporate "Woman From Tokyo" within "All Night Long" and "Smoke On The Water."
The Birmingham 2016 recording closes the set across sides Q through U, featuring several titles also present in the earlier recordings, among them "Catch The Rainbow," "Man On The Silver Mountain," "Mistreated," and "Stargazer." That final portion also includes "Highway Star," "Perfect Strangers," "Soldier Of Fortune," "Child In Time," "Burn," and "Black Night / Woman From Tokyo."
Across all four concerts, the set totals more than fifty individual track entries as listed. This is an unreviewed draft requiring fact-checker verification before publication.
