Roy Orbison
The Monument Vinyl Box

Listening notes

Music On Vinyl's 2013 release The Monument Vinyl Box (MOVLP969) collects Roy Orbison's Monument Records material across four vinyl records, presenting 48 tracks spread over eight sides. The set draws from a catalog that spans several of Orbison's most recognized titles from that period, including "Only The Lonely," "Running Scared," "Crying," "In Dreams," and "Oh, Pretty Woman," alongside less frequently compiled material such as "Shahdaroba," "Borne," "Yo Te Amo Maria," and "House Without Windows."

The tracklist is organized across sides A through H, with six tracks per side. The genres associated with the release — ballad, country, pop, rock, and rock and roll — reflect the range of material Orbison recorded during his Monument years, a body of work that moves between uptempo numbers like "What'd I Say" and "Working For The Man" and slower, more melodic pieces such as "Blue Bayou," "Loneliness," and "Lonely Wine." Several of the titles are covers of songs recorded by other artists, including "Bye Bye Love," "The Great Pretender," "Love Hurts," "All I Have To Do Is Dream," "Beautiful Dreamer," and "My Prayer," sitting alongside Orbison originals throughout the set.

At 48 tracks, the box represents a substantial cross-section of Orbison's Monument output in a single physical package. Collectors and researchers approaching the Monument catalog on vinyl will find this set a structurally comprehensive entry point to that portion of his recording career, cataloged here under Music On Vinyl's standard reissue imprint.
