Satyricon
The Shadowthrone

Listening notes

Satyricon's The Shadowthrone arrived on vinyl through Napalm Records in 2021, issued under catalog number NPR 1014 VINYL. The release carries genre designations of Black Metal and Rock, and its track sequencing across four sides gives the record a particular structural character worth noting for collectors approaching it on wax.

The album spans seven tracks distributed across a double LP format. Side A opens with "Hvite Krists Dod," which runs to eight minutes and twenty-eight seconds, followed by "In The Mist By The Hills" at eight minutes and one second — a pairing that commits substantial running time to the opening side. Side B carries "Woods To Eternity" at six minutes and fourteen seconds and "Vikingland" at five minutes and fifteen seconds. Side C opens with "Dominions Of Satyricon," the album's longest track at nine minutes and twenty-five seconds, paired with "The King Of The Shadowthrone" at six minutes and fourteen seconds. Side D closes the record with "I En Svart Kiste," running five minutes and twenty-six seconds — the sole track occupying that final side.

The total runtime distributed across these four sides reflects a release built around extended compositions, with several tracks exceeding six minutes and two exceeding eight. The decision to place a single track on Side D is a structural detail collectors and listeners will encounter directly when handling the record.

This 2021 Napalm Records pressing represents a vinyl edition of an album that carries both Norwegian-language and English-language titles across its tracklist, a detail that reflects the breadth of the record's textual identity as presented on this release.
