Listening notes
Released by BMG in 2015, the Scorpions 50th Anniversary Deluxe Editions is a combined vinyl and CD box set spanning seven studio albums and two live recordings from the band's catalogue. The set covers Taken By Force (1977), Tokyo Tapes (1978), Lovedrive (1979), Animal Magnetism (1980), Blackout (1982), Love At First Sting (1984), World Wide Live (1985), Savage Amusement (1988), and a live recording identified as Live At Madison Square Garden, which appears on CD only.
The vinyl component runs to nine LPs. Taken By Force occupies a single LP and includes the bonus track "Suspender Love." Tokyo Tapes is spread across three LPs, LP2 through LP4. Lovedrive and Animal Magnetism each occupy one LP. Blackout and Love At First Sting each take a single LP, and World Wide Live fills two LPs, LP8 and LP9. Savage Amusement occupies LP10.
The CD component extends the content considerably. Each studio album disc includes bonus material not replicated on the vinyl. The Taken By Force CD adds five tracks, among them three demos and an unfinished instrumental titled "Blue Dream." The Tokyo Tapes CD3 carries seven bonus tracks including extended versions of several live performances. Lovedrive's CD appends two demo versions, while Animal Magnetism includes six bonus tracks, among them demo versions identified as early forms of album tracks under different working titles. The Blackout CD adds four demo tracks, Love At First Sting five, and Savage Amusement six. CD8, labeled Live At Madison Square Garden, contains eleven tracks and has no vinyl counterpart in the set.
A note for fact checkers: the tracklist as provided contains apparent inconsistencies in matrix position labeling, including a position marked LP2-D2 within what appears to be an LP2 side-B sequence, and a CD4 track listed as "Can't To Coast," which may be a transcription error for "Can't Get Enough." These should be verified against the physical release before publication.
