Listening notes

Shoes are a power pop and rock act, and Primal Vinyl, released in 2015 on Alive Records, presents twelve tracks across two sides under catalog number ALIVE0170-1. The album arrives in a standard vinyl format, with side A and side B each carrying six songs.

Side A opens with "Tomorrow Night" at two minutes and fifty-six seconds, followed by "Don't Do This To Me," the longest track on the record at three minutes and fifty-two seconds. "Too Late" comes in under three minutes at two forty-three, and "Girls Of Today" and "I Don't Wanna Hear It" each run three minutes and four seconds. "Okay" is the briefest entry on side A at two minutes and twenty-six seconds.

Side B begins with "Boys Don't Lie," the shortest track on the entire record at one minute and fifty-seven seconds. "She Satisfies" follows at two minutes and fifty-eight seconds, and "The Summer Rain" is the longest cut on the B side at three minutes and thirty-nine seconds. "Burned Out Love" and "Hate To Run" both fall under two and a half minutes, at two thirty and two twenty-nine respectively. "Love Is Like A Bullet" closes the record at three minutes and twenty-six seconds.

Taken as a whole, the sequencing moves between shorter, compact tracks and a handful of pieces that stretch past three minutes, giving the record a varied pacing across its runtime. The twelve titles also suggest a thematic range touching on relationships and emotional states, consistent with what listeners tend to associate with the power pop genre. Primal Vinyl sits in the Alive Records catalog and represents a vinyl document of Shoes within that label's output.
