Skints, The
FM

Listening notes

Released in 2015 on Easy Star Records (catalog number ES-1046V), FM is a vinyl LP by the London-based group The Skints. The record sits within the reggae, roots reggae, and ska genres, and is issued on a label with an established history of releasing music in those styles.

The album is structured around a conceit that gives it its title: interspersed among its ten full-length songs are four short interstitial tracks presented as fictional radio broadcasts. These segments — running from eighteen seconds to just over a minute — carry names such as "FM: DJ Mr. Versatile Breakfast Show," "FM: Dancehall Dilemmas With Dr. Ranking Pegasus," "FM: Grime Hour With Rivz," and "FM: DJ Mr. Versatile Evening Session." Their placement across both sides of the record suggests an intentional sequencing device, framing the surrounding music as programming heard across a single broadcast day, from a breakfast show through to an evening session.

Side A opens with the first of these radio segments before moving into eight tracks, the briefest of which, "Come To You" and "My War," each clock in at under three minutes. Side B closes with "Tomorrow," the album's longest track at five minutes and twenty-three seconds, preceded by a final brief station-break segment.

The full tracklist across both sides runs to fifteen entries. The record is cataloged under ES-1046V and was released through Easy Star Records, a New York-based independent label. Collectors and researchers consulting this entry should verify all additional claims — including personnel, pressing variants, and any chart or critical history — against primary sources before treating them as confirmed.
