Vinyl Moon Volume 092: Dimensional Tilt

Listening notes

Vinyl Moon Volume 092: Dimensional Tilt arrived in 2023 as the ninety-second installment in the subscription label's ongoing series of curated compilations pressed to vinyl. Released under the Vinyl Moon imprint, the record carries a title that gestures toward some kind of perceptual shift, though what that framing means in practice across the ten collected tracks is a question the listener will work out for themselves.

The compilation spans a notably wide range of catalogued genres — downtempo, electronic, pop, reggae, and rock — which gives the sequencing its work to do across two sides. Side A opens with "That Blew My Mind" at three minutes and fifty-four seconds and moves through four more selections before closing on "Spring Snowflake," the longest track on the record at five minutes and thirty-one seconds. The relative length of that closer gives Side A an unhurried conclusion before the flip. Side B runs a tighter sequence, opening with "Coda Presto" at three minutes and twenty-six seconds and working through to "Pick Me Up," which at four minutes and fifty-five seconds gives the second side its own extended ending. The shortest track on the record is "Superfunk" at B3, clocking in at three minutes and seventeen seconds.

Vinyl Moon has built its catalog around the subscription format, releasing numbered volumes on a rolling basis. Volume 092 fits within that framework without deviation. The genre spread documented here — from reggae to downtempo to rock — reflects the label's stated interest in cross-genre curation, though how successfully those elements cohere on this particular volume is not something the verified facts here can speak to.
