Status Quo
The Vinyl Singles Collection 1972-1979

Listening notes

Released by Universal Music in 2017, The Vinyl Singles Collection 1972-1979 is a box set from Status Quo catalogued under the number 5726802. As the title indicates, the set draws from a seven-year span of the band's output, presenting the material in a hard rock and rock framework across thirteen individual vinyl discs, each formatted as a two-sided single in the traditional A-side and B-side configuration.

The thirteen discs account for twenty-six titles in total. The sequence opens with "Paper Plane" backed by "Softer Ride" and closes with "Living On An Island" backed by "Runaway." Between those bookends, the set includes titles such as "Caroline," "Down Down," "Break The Rules," "Rockin' All Over The World," and "Whatever You Want," alongside their respective B-sides. Several of the B-sides collected here — among them "Nightride," "Gerdundula / Junior's Wailing," and "Ring Of A Change" — are the kind of titles that would require more deliberate effort to locate outside a curated set of this kind. The fifth disc is notable for pairing "Roll Over Lay Down" with a double B-side, "Gerdundula / Junior's Wailing."

The format itself is straightforward: thirteen discs, each replicating the single presentation, packaged together under one catalog number. What the set provides is a structured chronological survey of Status Quo's singles output across the period in question, contained within a single release rather than spread across separate purchases.

This is an unreviewed draft. Personnel, pressing details, and any additional packaging contents should be independently verified before publication.
