Steven Wilson
Limited Edition Coloured Vinyl Seven-Inch Single By Steven Wilson

Listening notes

Steven Wilson's 2021 seven-inch single on Electronic Sound, catalog number ES773, arrives in a limited edition coloured vinyl format and pairs two extended remixes drawn from his catalog. The A-side presents "King Ghost (Extended Remix)" at five minutes and fifty-eight seconds, while the B-side offers "Eminent Sleaze (Extended Remix)" at five minutes and fifty-nine seconds, giving each side nearly equal running time and suggesting a deliberate symmetry in how the release was sequenced.

The choice to extend both tracks beyond what a standard single format might typically accommodate is notable in itself. At nearly six minutes per side, the record pushes against the practical constraints of the seven-inch format, a format more often associated with concise, radio-ready edits. That Wilson and Electronic Sound elected to present these remixes in this configuration, rather than defaulting to a twelve-inch or digital release, represents a conscious formal decision worth acknowledging.

Electronic Sound, the label behind this release, is associated with the broader electronic and experimental music publishing space, and the genres attached to this release — prog rock and rock — situate Wilson's work within a tradition that has long embraced the extended composition as a legitimate artistic unit. The catalog number ES773 places this release within Electronic Sound's documented output for the year.
