Stuart McLean
Vinyl Cafe Stories

Listening notes

Stuart McLean's *Vinyl Cafe Stories*, released in 1998 on Vinyl Cafe Productions (catalog number VCD0002), is a two-disc CD set catalogued under the Comedy and Non-Music genres. The release collects nine spoken-word pieces performed by McLean, with a combined runtime that extends well past the two-hour mark.

The track lengths themselves suggest something about the nature of the material. Several stories run considerably long — "Polly Anderson's Christmas Party" closes the second disc at just over twenty-three minutes, while "Holland," "School Days," "The Bird," and "Cat In The Car" each exceed seventeen minutes. Shorter pieces like "Driving Lessons" at under eight minutes and "The Jock Strap" at just over nine offer some variation in pacing across the set. The titles point toward domestic and everyday subject matter: driving lessons, school, a bird, a cat in a car, a day off, a Christmas party. Whether these are fictional narratives, autobiographical accounts, or some combination is not specified in the available documentation.

The label name, Vinyl Cafe Productions, shares its name with the artist's broader Vinyl Cafe project, a detail that may be of interest to collectors cross-referencing releases under that umbrella. The catalog number VCD0002 places this release early in the label's output, at least by sequential numbering.

For a reference site primarily oriented toward music releases on vinyl, this CD entry represents a non-music format and genre. Collectors and researchers interested in Canadian spoken-word releases or the broader Vinyl Cafe discography will find the basic release data confirmed here. All other details — personnel, recording circumstances, and pressing information — remain unverified and are omitted from this draft pending further documentation.
