Summoning
With Doom We Come

Listening notes

Summoning's With Doom We Come was released in 2018 on Napalm Records. This box set edition carries the catalog number NPR 767 VB and presents the album across multiple vinyl records, with the main album spread across sides A through D and additional material occupying sides E and F.

The tracklist on the first two records moves through eight compositions: Tar-Calion and Silvertine on side A, Carcharoth and Herumor on side B, Barrow-downs and Night Fell Behind on side C, and Mirklands and With Doom I Come closing out side D. The third record collects two further pieces, As Echoes From The World Of Old on side E and And Wonder Walks The Forest Eaves on side F.

The genre tags associated with this release span a notably broad range, including black metal, classical, medieval, symphonic metal, and rock. Whether those descriptors reflect the album's own range or the difficulty of categorizing Summoning's output into any single tradition is a question the tags themselves cannot settle.

Several track titles — Carcharoth, Silvertine, Barrow-downs, Mirklands — will be immediately recognizable to readers familiar with J.R.R. Tolkien's invented mythologies, though the specifics of how or whether the lyrics engage with those source texts are outside the scope of what the catalog data here confirms.

The box set format and the division of content across what appears to be at least three records suggests a release conceived with some physical ambition, though details about packaging, colored vinyl, inserts, or edition size are not available from the verified information at hand and should be confirmed before publication.
