Syd Barrett
Vinyl Sessions E.P.

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on the Octopus label, the Vinyl Sessions E.P. by Syd Barrett carries catalog number NR16509 and presents four tracks across two sides. Side A opens with "Dark Globe," followed by "Word Song," while Side B contains "Birdy Hop" and "Milky Way."

Barrett, the founding member of Pink Floyd who departed the band in 1968, is cataloged under the genres of avantgarde, psychedelic rock, and rock on this release. By 1986, Barrett had long since withdrawn from public life and the music industry, making any release bearing his name during this period a notable artifact for researchers and collectors documenting his recorded output.

The E.P. format places four tracks across two sides of a vinyl record, a configuration that was common for releases of this kind during the mid-1980s. The Octopus label, designated here as Octopus (3) to distinguish it from other labels sharing that name, is the imprint responsible for this release.

"Dark Globe" is among the tracks associated with Barrett's solo work from the early 1970s, and its appearance here alongside "Word Song," "Birdy Hop," and "Milky Way" situates this E.P. within the broader archival and reissue activity that surrounded his catalog during the years following his retirement from recording. No duration information is available for any of the four tracks in the verified record for this release.

Fact-checker notes: Track durations are absent from source data and should be confirmed independently if required. The Octopus (3) label designation should be verified against label discographies to confirm it is accurately distinguished from other Octopus imprints. Any additional claims regarding personnel, pressing details, or reception have been deliberately omitted pending verification.
