Tommy Bolin
Teaser 40th Anniversary Vinyl Edition Box Set

Listening notes

Released in 2015 by UDR (catalog number UDR0460), the Teaser 40th Anniversary Vinyl Edition Box Set marks four decades since Tommy Bolin's solo debut with a combined vinyl and CD package. The set spans multiple formats under a single release, bringing together material catalogued across genres including blues, blues rock, classic rock, hard rock, jazz, and rock.

The vinyl component runs across six sides, labeled A through F. Side A opens with the title track at 5:21 before giving way to "Flying Fingers," which extends to 16:05. Side B is dominated by "Wild Dogs" at 13:52, followed by "Cookoo" at 6:15. Sides C and D continue with "Chameleon," "Lotus," "The Grind," and "Crazed Fandango," with "Lotus" running 11:29. Sides E and F broaden the program considerably, adding tracks including "Marching Powder," "Homeward Strut," "Dreamer," "Savannah Woman," and "Oriental Sky," the last of which closes the vinyl at 11:26.

The CD portion, subtitled Best Of Live, is spread across two discs totaling seventeen tracks. CD1 includes live versions of several titles also present on the vinyl — among them "Teaser," "People People," "Wild Dogs," and "Homeward Strut" — alongside additional material such as "Stratus," "Post Toastee," and "Hoka-Hay." CD2 continues the live program with "Shake The Devil," extended readings of "Marching Powder" at 13:02 and "Post Toastee" at 13:29, and closes with "Walk In My Shadow."

Across both formats, the box set's combined runtime is substantial, with several tracks well exceeding their studio counterparts in the live versions. The tracklist, taken as a whole, reflects the breadth of genres attributed to Bolin's work on this record.
