Turtles, The
45 RPM Vinyl Singles Collection

Listening notes

Released in 2014 on the Manifesto label, the 45 RPM Vinyl Singles Collection from The Turtles (catalog number MFO 48030) gathers sixteen tracks across a vinyl box set, with each title occupying its own dedicated side in the familiar single format. The set spans genres cataloged as garage rock, pop rock, power pop, rock, and rock and roll.

The tracklist reads as a substantial survey of the group's output in the single format. "It Ain't Me Babe" opens the collection at two minutes and ten seconds, followed on its paired side by "You Don't Have To Walk In The Rain" at two minutes and twenty-seven seconds. "Let Me Be" and "Love In The City" occupy the next pair of sides, running two minutes and twenty seconds and two minutes and fifteen seconds respectively. "You Baby" and "You Know What I Mean" follow, the latter clocking in at just over two minutes. "Happy Together," at two minutes and fifty seconds, is among the longer entries in the set, paired with "Grim Reaper Of Love." "She'd Rather Be With Me" and "Story Of Rock And Roll" continue the sequence, with the latter running two minutes and forty seconds. "She's My Girl" and "Can I Get To Know You Better" are each logged at two minutes and thirty-two seconds. "Elenore" runs two minutes and thirty-one seconds, followed by "Outside Chance" at two minutes and two seconds. The collection closes with "You Showed Me" at three minutes and five seconds and "Sound Asleep" at one minute and fifty-three seconds, the briefest entry across the sixteen sides.

The box set format presents each track as a discrete single, which is consistent with how these recordings were originally issued. Whether that presentation adds meaningful context for collectors or listeners is a question this draft does not attempt to answer without additional verified information.
