Twin Temple
God Is Dead

Listening notes

Twin Temple's *God Is Dead*, released in 2023 on Pentagrammaton Records (catalog number PR-666-4), is a vinyl release that brings together doo wop, pop, and rock across eight tracks spread over two sides.

Side A opens with "Burn Your Bible" at three minutes and thirty-five seconds, followed by "(Fallen' For A) Fallen Angel" at three minutes and fifteen seconds. "Let's Have A Satanic Orgy" is the longest track on the side at four minutes and two seconds, and "Two Sinners" closes Side A at three minutes and forty seconds. Side B runs from "Black Magick" at three minutes and forty-one seconds through "Spellbreaker" at two minutes and forty-eight seconds and "Be A Slut" at two minutes and forty-four seconds, concluding with the title track "God Is Dead" at four minutes and twenty seconds.

The tracklist titles are direct in their provocations, establishing a thematic identity that is consistent across both sides of the record. The pairing of deliberately transgressive subject matter with genres historically associated with mid-twentieth century popular music — doo wop in particular — is a choice that defines the project's basic character on paper, whatever a listener ultimately makes of it.

The release comes through Pentagrammaton Records, the label associated with Twin Temple's output, and the catalog number PR-666-4 follows a numbering convention the label has used across its releases. The total runtime, based on the listed track durations, comes to approximately thirty-two minutes across the eight tracks.
