Ultha
All That Has Never Been True

Listening notes

Ultha's *All That Has Never Been True*, released in 2022 on Vendetta Records, arrives as a double LP spanning four sides and seven tracks. The Cologne-based black metal band presents a record catalogued under both black metal and rock, a pairing that at least hints at the band's willingness to operate across genre lines, though the tracklist itself is where the most immediate information lives.

The seven titles distributed across the four sides carry a distinct literary weight. Side A opens with "Dispel" before moving into the German-language "Der Alte Feind (Jeder Tag Reisst Wunden)," which translates roughly to "The Old Enemy (Every Day Tears Wounds)." The bilingual sequence establishes an early sense of duality that the subsequent titles sustain in their own way. Side B holds "Bathed In Lightning. Bathed In Heat" and "He Knew And Did Not Know," both of which lean on contradiction as a structural device. Side C carries "Carrion (To Walk Among The Spiders)" and "Haloes In Reverse," while the final side closes the record on a single, extended-feeling title: "Rats Gorged The Moon... And All Fell Silent."

That closing title, and indeed the album title itself, suggests an aesthetic preoccupied with negation, absence, and aftermath. Whether or not that reading holds against the actual music is a matter for the listener to resolve. What the tracklist offers on its own terms is a sequence that moves deliberately, with Side D given over entirely to one piece, implying that the record's architecture places particular weight on its conclusion.

Released without a listed catalog number, the record represents Vendetta Records' continued engagement with underground European heavy music. Duration data for individual tracks is not available in the current documentation.
