Elvira Presents Vinyl Macabre-Oldies But Ghoulies (Vol. 1)

Listening notes

Released in 1986 on Rhino Records, catalog number RNC 810, this cassette compilation carries a title that does its best to signal exactly what it is: a horror-themed oldies collection presented under the Elvira brand. The full title — Elvira Presents Vinyl Macabre-Oldies But Ghoulies (Vol. 1) — suggests a series conception, though whether subsequent volumes followed is not confirmed here.

The format is cassette, and the title's reference to vinyl is worth noting as a curiosity, given that no corresponding vinyl release is documented in the verified facts available. The tracklist spans thirteen positions across two sides, bracketed by an "Elvira's Theme (Intro)" on Side A and an "Elvira's Theme (Outro)" closing Side B — a framing device that places Elvira's persona explicitly at the center of the listening experience rather than treating her as a passive licensor.

The genres listed — Garage Rock, Horror Rock, Pop Rock, Rock, Rock & Roll, and Rockabilly — reflect the range of material gathered here. Familiar titles appear throughout: "Monster Mash," "Purple People Eater," and "Out of Limits" sit alongside entries like "The Munsters," "Twilight Zone," "Haunted House," and "Drac's Back." Track durations are not documented in the available data, and individual artist credits for each selection are not confirmed in the verified facts provided.

Rhino Records, operating here under the catalog designation Rhino Records (2), was by 1986 well established as a label with a particular focus on compilations and catalog reissues, which situates this release within a coherent commercial and curatorial context for that label's output during the period.

No personnel, pressing, or production details are available for verification in the current record. This draft should be reviewed accordingly.
