Flipside Vinyl Fanzine Vol. 3

Listening notes

Flipside Vinyl Fanzine Vol. 3 is a various-artists compilation released in 1989 on Weird System, catalog number WS029. It is the third installment in a series connected to Flipside, the Los Angeles-based punk fanzine that operated during the 1980s and into the 1990s. The record falls under the genres of hardcore, punk, and rock.

The compilation spreads twenty-two tracks across two sides. The A-side opens with ten cuts, beginning with "The Liar" at two minutes and five seconds and moving through titles that include "Straight Edge In Your Face," "Living With The Bomb," and "Second Chances," the latter running just over four minutes and representing one of the longer entries on the side. "Evicted" closes the A-side at four minutes and seventeen seconds, the longest track on that half of the record.

The B-side carries twelve tracks. Several titles here will be recognizable as names shared with songs from other artists and traditions — "Hot Rails To Hell," "Hate Your Friends," "Fortunate Son," and "California Dreamin" among them — though the verified data does not confirm whether these are covers, originals sharing a title, or something else, and no claim is made here either way. The B-side runs through shorter material on the whole, with most tracks falling under two and a half minutes. "Try" at two minutes and fifty seconds is the longest on that side.

No artist attributions per track are available in the verified data. Researchers and collectors seeking personnel information or label notes should consult the physical sleeve directly. This draft is unreviewed and should be verified before publication.
