Indie Top 20 CD88>>The Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 1988 on Beechwood Music, Indie Top 20 CD88>>The Vinyl carries the catalog number CD88LP and presents itself as a vinyl edition of what its title suggests was a companion release to a CD compilation. The format is a multi-sided LP, with tracks spread across four sides — A through D — accommodating nineteen tracks in total.

The genres listed against this release span a fairly wide range for the period: alternative rock, indie pop, indie rock, pop, and rock. That breadth is consistent with what one might expect from a various-artists compilation operating under the "Indie Top 20" banner, a title that implies a chart or curatorial context, though the specific sourcing and selection criteria are not documented here.

The tracklist runs from the comparatively brief "Hang Ten!" at two minutes and eleven seconds on the B side, through to longer selections such as "Mickey Way (The Candy Bar)" at five minutes and fifty seconds, which opens the D side. "Is This The Life" on the A side and "Velveteen" on the B side both exceed five minutes. The D side also includes "Into The Groovy (Tuff Titty Rap/Into The Groove)" and closes with "There Is No Love Between Us Anymore" at five minutes and twenty-four seconds, making it the most substantial side by running time.

Several track titles stand out for their period character: "Dickie Davies Eyes," "Kidney Bingos," and "Chile Your Waters Run Red Through Soweto" suggest a compilation drawing from across the independent sector without narrowly restricting its scope.

Artist attributions per track are not available in the current documentation and would be essential for any complete entry. Fact checker should verify individual track artists, label ownership, and any chart or publication affiliation connected to the Indie Top 20 series.
