Alt Om Vinyl

Listening notes

Alt Om Vinyl, released in 2018 on Byens Forlag (catalog number BF001), is a compilation bringing together a varied roster of artists across jazz and rock. Contributors include Michael Denner, Omar (29), Fløjl, Carsten Meinert Kvartet, Bremer/McCoy, Benjamin Koppel, and Joe Lovano, representing a range of Danish and international names working across those two genres.

The record contains six tracks spread across two sides. Side A opens with "Fountain Of Grace" at three minutes and forty-two seconds, followed by "Freaks Of The Night" at five minutes and four seconds, and closes with "Nede Ved Søen" at four minutes and three seconds. Side B begins with "Blues To Someone" running four minutes and thirty seconds, continues with a live recording, "I Eet (Live)," at two minutes and fifty-seven seconds, and concludes with "The Unanswered Question," the longest track on the record at eight minutes and thirty-four seconds. The presence of a live track among otherwise unspecified studio recordings gives the sequencing a degree of variety, and the closing track's extended runtime distinguishes it from the rest of the program.

The album was issued under the catalog number BF001, suggesting it may represent an early or inaugural release for Byens Forlag as a label, though no additional context about the label's history is available here to confirm that interpretation. The compilation format, pairing jazz and rock artists on a single vinyl release, points to a project conceived around the format itself rather than a single genre or scene. The title, Alt Om Vinyl, translates roughly from Danish as "Everything About Vinyl," which may indicate a thematic or editorial connection to vinyl culture, though the precise nature of any such connection is not confirmed by the available information.
