More Early Pakistani Dance Music (From Original 7" Vinyl 1965 - 1978)

Listening notes

Released in 2016 on the Ovular label (catalog number OVULAR 02), More Early Pakistani Dance Music (From Original 7" Vinyl 1965 - 1978) is a various-artists compilation presented on vinyl. As the title indicates, the source material was drawn from original 7-inch singles recorded across a thirteen-year span, from 1965 to 1978.

The release is catalogued across a broad range of genres, among them Folk, World, and Country; Jazz; Pop; Psychedelic Rock; Rock; Soundtrack; Stage and Screen; and Swing. That spread of classifications alone suggests the range of styles absorbed into Pakistani popular and dance music during the period covered by the source recordings.

The tracklist runs to fifteen selections across two sides. Several tracks carry explicit "Dance Music" designations in their titles — "Dance Music (Nishani)," "Dance Music (Saya)," and "Dance Music (Ankhon Ankhon Men)" — pointing to a functional, floor-oriented purpose in their original context. "Coctail Music (Rootha Na Karo)" offers a variant of that framing, while "The Ludee Twist" references a specific dance form. Titles such as "Pashto Pangra," "Marriage Folk Dopatta," and "Darbari" gesture toward distinct regional and ceremonial traditions. "Tarasta Hal Yeh Dil (Arzoo)" and "Dulhan Ban Kay Raat Ayee" round out the B-side alongside "Dancing Time" and "Bete Dinon Ki Yadon."

The presence of "More" in the title indicates this was not Ovular's first release in this series, implying at least one preceding volume of similar scope. No track durations are listed in available documentation.
