Nasty Vinyl Sucks!

Listening notes

Released in 1994 on the Nasty Vinyl label, *Nasty Vinyl Sucks!* is a various artists compilation issued with the catalog number NV 30. The record presents seven tracks across two sides, spanning the punk and rock genres.

Side A opens with "Fröhliche Weihnacht Überall," a title that translates roughly from German as "Joyful Christmas Everywhere," followed by "Voodoo Hate Monster" and "Walter." Side B carries four tracks: "No Sun Today," "Ister," "Fair Fick," and the closing "Nasty Without Vinyl." The mix of German and English titles across the tracklist points to at least some connection to a German-speaking context, though the label's full geographic scope is not confirmed here.

The compilation's title is notable for its self-deprecating quality, apparently directed at the very format on which it was pressed. Whether this reflects a label identity built around irony, a specific scene's sense of humor, or something else entirely is not something the available facts can settle. What is clear is that the label chose to name a thirtieth catalog release — NV 30 suggesting a catalog that had grown to at least that number by 1994 — with a phrase that undermines its own medium.

No track durations are documented in the available data, and contributor or artist information for individual tracks is not confirmed here. Researchers looking to identify the specific acts represented on this compilation will need to consult liner notes or other primary sources.

As an artifact, *Nasty Vinyl Sucks!* sits within a period of sustained independent vinyl activity in punk and rock circles, though any claims about its place within that landscape would require sources beyond what is verified here. This draft should be reviewed against physical copies and any available label documentation before publication.
