The Best Of Flipside Vinyl Fanzines

Listening notes

Released in 1993 on Flipside Records (catalog number FLIP52), The Best Of Flipside Vinyl Fanzines is a two-disc CD compilation drawing from the hardcore, punk, and rock genres. The set was issued by Flipside Records, the label associated with the long-running Los Angeles-based punk fanzine of the same name, and its title indicates the tracks were sourced from vinyl fanzine releases connected to that publication.

The compilation is substantial in scope. Disc one carries 28 tracks, opening with "Gigantor" at 2:26 and closing with a live recording of "Attitude" at 1:43. Track lengths on the first disc range from the brief "Slave To My Estrogen" at 1:16 to "Golden Boys," the longest entry on either disc at 5:32. Disc two contains 27 tracks, beginning with "Shakin All Over" at 2:56 and concluding with "Mad Dog" at 1:14. Across both discs, the running times skew toward the compact, with many tracks falling under three minutes, consistent with the economy of pace common to hardcore and punk material. A handful of longer cuts appear throughout, including "Island Paradise" at 4:08, "Evicted" at 4:21, and "First Residue" at 4:13 on disc two.

The full roster of artists represented across the 55 tracks is not documented in the available metadata. Prospective fact-checkers should verify contributing artists against physical liner notes or confirmed supplementary sources before publication. Similarly, no verified information is available regarding individual personnel, recording origins, or the specific vinyl releases from which these tracks were drawn.

The title's explicit reference to "vinyl fanzines" suggests the compilation functioned as an archival document of material previously available in that format, though the precise scope of that archive has not been confirmed here.
