Vinyl Moon Volume 071: Garden Of Echoes

Listening notes

Vinyl Moon Volume 071, titled Garden Of Echoes, was released in 2021 on the Vinyl Moon label. The compilation sits across the Hip Hop and Jazz genres and arrives as part of Vinyl Moon's ongoing numbered series, here reaching its seventy-first volume.

The record is laid out across two sides. The A side opens with "Guardian of the World" at five minutes and eighteen seconds, followed by "Psilocybin Smoothie" at four minutes and ten seconds. "Sunset Crescent" runs three minutes and fourteen seconds before "BECAUSE NOBODY" arrives at four minutes and twenty seconds — a track whose title stands apart from the others in its use of all capitals. The A side closes with "Quand C'est Mou," a French-language title clocking in at four minutes and two seconds, and the only track on the record whose title is not in English.

The B side opens with the compilation's longest track, "Daylight," at five minutes and forty-seven seconds. "Toy Machine" follows at four minutes and eight seconds, and "I'm So Tired" runs six minutes and thirteen seconds, making it the single longest piece across both sides. The record closes with "Walk" at three minutes and thirty-eight seconds, the shortest track on the B side.

In total, the nine tracks span just over forty-one minutes of music. The tracklist moves between shorter and longer pieces without a strict pattern, and the presence of both Hip Hop and Jazz in the listed genres suggests the compilation draws from more than one musical tradition. As with other volumes in the Vinyl Moon series, the release is attributed to Various artists rather than a single performer.
