Vital Vinyl (Volume Two.)

Listening notes

Vital Vinyl (Volume Two.) is a various artists compilation released in 1980 on Pickwick Records, catalog number SHM 3037. The record spans a notably broad stylistic range, with genres listed across classic rock, hard rock, new wave, pop, punk, rock, and soft rock — a mix that reflects the eclectic commercial landscape of the period without committing to any single scene.

The twelve-track program is split evenly across two sides. Side A opens with "Denis" and moves through "Shadow Play," "Conquistador," "Be Good Yourself," "Valley of the Dolls," and "Saturday Night Beneath the Plastic Palm Trees." Side B runs from "Ready Steady Go" through "When the Daylight," "I Keep Forgetting," "Ships," "Doctor Doctor," and closes with "Fly Now." Track durations are not documented in available sources.

Pickwick Records was a well-established budget label operating in the United Kingdom, known for releasing compilation and budget-line product during this era. The Vital Vinyl series title, with its alliterative branding, suggests this release was positioned as part of a branded sequence — Volume Two implied by the title — though details of other volumes in the series are not confirmed here and would require independent verification.

No personnel, production credits, or licensing information has been verified for this release. Researchers and collectors consulting this entry should treat artist attributions for individual tracks as unconfirmed until cross-referenced against original label copy or period discographies. Track running times are likewise absent from available data.
