WKW Picture Vinyl

Listening notes

Released by Universal Music Hong Kong in 2016 under catalog number 3519447, WKW Picture Vinyl is a various-artists compilation issued on vinyl. The release spans eight sides across what the tracklist indicates is a multi-disc set, with positions running from A through H and a total of sixty-six tracks.

The program draws on material associated with the Soundtrack and Stage & Screen genres alongside Classical, Folk, World & Country, Funk/Soul, Jazz, Latin, and Rock, reflecting an unusually broad stylistic scope for a single compilation. Titles on Sides A and B include "Ashes of Time," "Love Theme," "Jingzhe," and "The Flag is Still (Full Version)," while Sides C and D shift toward material that includes "Waterfall Cucurrucucu Paloma," "Chunga's Revenge," "Milonga for Three," and "Happy Together." Sides E and F carry a dense sequence of shorter pieces, among them "Yumeji's Theme," "Aquellos Ojos Verdes," "Te Quiero Dijiste," "Quizas Quizas Quizas," and multiple Angkor Wat-themed cues alongside an extended version of "Yumeji's Theme." Sides G and H close the program with tracks presented in both English and traditional Chinese characters, including "First Killing," "The Killer's Death," and "思慕的人."

Track lengths vary considerably, from brief spoken or ambient fragments of six to fifteen seconds — such as "Mo-wan's Dialogue" and "Li-zhen's dialogue" — to pieces exceeding six minutes, including "Chunga's Revenge" at 6:19 and "Milonga for Three" at 6:01. The inclusion of dialogue excerpts and brief transitional cues alongside longer musical works gives the tracklist a structure consistent with compiled film score material.
