Witthüser & Westrupp
Vinyl Collection

Listening notes

Released by ZYX Music in 2020 under catalog number ZYX BOX 055, the Witthüser & Westrupp Vinyl Collection brings together four LPs worth of material from the German duo and associated solo work, spanning genres catalogued as folk, Krautrock, and rock.

The first record presents Trips & Träume across two sides. Side A opens with "Laßt Uns Auf Die Reise Gehn" at four minutes before moving into two extended pieces: "Trippo Nova" at nearly nine minutes and "Orienta" at seven and a half. Side B balances a similarly lengthy centerpiece in "Karlchen" (9:05) against shorter tracks, closing with "Nimm Doch Einen Joint, Mein Freund."

The second vinyl collects Der Jesus Pilz (Musik Vom Evangelium), a work whose track titles draw explicitly from scripture — Luke, Mark, and Genesis are each cited in the song listings. The B side is anchored by a three-part suite running just over ten minutes, followed by "Besuch Aus Dem Kosmos" at nine minutes and forty-five seconds.

Vinyl three contains Bauer Plath, again weighted toward longer compositions. "Der Rat Der Motten" runs just over eight minutes, and "Das Märchen Vom Königssohn" closes the record at nine and a half minutes.

The fourth record shifts attribution to Bernd Witthüser alone, presenting Alte Rezepte as a solo work. Its tracklist includes two instrumental bookends — "Parade" opening Side A and "Abmarsch" closing Side B at under a minute — framing a set of songs that includes the title track across two parts at over ten minutes.

Across all four records, the collection spans roughly three hours of material. The genre classifications on file reflect the range present: folk structures appear alongside the longer, more exploratory pieces associated with the Krautrock designation. This is an unreviewed draft and all details should be verified against source materials before publication.
