Arthur Russell
First Thought Best Thought

Listening notes

Arthur Russell's First Thought Best Thought was released in 2006 on the Audika label, catalog number AUD6000, as a vinyl format. The release draws from multiple stylistic territories simultaneously, with genres spanning abstract, art rock, avant-garde, electronic, experimental, jazz, modern classical, and rock — a breadth that reflects the range of Russell's documented creative practice.

The release compiles several works, including Instrumentals Volume 1, Instrumentals Volume 2, Tower Of Meaning, and Sketch For The Face Of Helen. One track carries specific instrumentation in its title: Reach One (With Two Fender Rhodes), listed at position C3, making it among the few entries here to carry both a side designation and an explicit reference to the instruments involved. The title Sketch For The Face Of Helen is listed at position F. Beyond these details, track positions and durations for the remaining titles are not available in the verified information for this release.

The Audika label, which issued this record, has been associated with releases from Russell's catalog. First Thought Best Thought sits as a multi-disc or multi-sided release given the side designations present in the tracklist, though the full structure of the release is not fully captured in the available data.

This is an unreviewed draft. Fact-checker should verify: whether Audika's founding or relationship to Russell's estate can be responsibly summarized; the complete side and track position structure of the release; whether any additional personnel or production credits can be confirmed and added; and whether release year reflects original issue or a repress.
