Bebel Gilberto
Remixed Vinyl 2

Listening notes

Bebel Gilberto's Remixed Vinyl 2, released in 2005 on the Ziriguiboom label under catalog number ZBOOM 134, is a five-track vinyl release that draws from her catalog and presents it through a remixed format. The record spreads across two sides and situates Gilberto's music across a range of genre territories, catalogued variously under Bossanova, Funk / Soul, Jazz, Jazz-Funk, and Latin — a breadth that reflects the hybrid sensibility her work has long occupied.

Side A opens with "Winter," followed by "Baby (Uptown Safari Jazz Mix)," the latter title making explicit that at least some of the material here represents reworked versions of existing recordings rather than original productions. Side B carries three tracks: "Ceu (Distante Mix)," which similarly signals its remixed status in its title, alongside "Cade Beijo" and "Aganju."

The Ziriguiboom label, which issued the release, was a Belgian imprint associated with world and electronic-leaning music during this period. The catalog number ZBOOM 134 places this release within that label's broader output from the mid-2000s, a time when remix-oriented vinyl releases were a common vehicle for extending the reach of an artist's studio material into DJ-friendly formats.

Gilberto, daughter of João Gilberto and stepdaughter of Miúcha, has maintained a presence in music that draws substantially on the Bossa Nova tradition while incorporating contemporary production approaches. This release, in its genre tags and track titling, reflects that position without departing from the framework her recordings have generally occupied.
