Blake Lewis
Heartbreak On Vinyl

Listening notes

Blake Lewis released *Heartbreak On Vinyl* in 2009 on Tommy Boy Records, catalog number TB 1741-2. The album was issued on CD and spans thirteen tracks across a range of listed genres that include Electronic, Europop, Pop, Pop Rock, and Rock, suggesting a broadly eclectic approach to contemporary pop construction.

The tracklist runs from the title track, which opens the record at three minutes and fifty-eight seconds, through a set of songs that vary considerably in length. Several tracks fall in the three-and-a-half to four-minute range typical of commercial pop formatting, while others extend further. "Left My Baby For You" is the longest conventional song at five minutes and one second, and "Love Or Torture (Please Don't Stop)" follows closely at five minutes flat. The shortest entry is "SuperScratchaVocalisticTurnatableLicious," a one-minute-and-four-second piece whose title alone signals an interest in turntablism and vocal performance that sits somewhat apart from the album's otherwise straightforward song titles. The remaining tracks — among them "Binary Love," "Freak," "Sad Song," "Rhythm Of My Heart," "Afraid," "Rebel Without A Cause," "Our Rapture Of Love," "The Point," and "The Remedy" — fill out a program totaling just under fifty-two minutes of running time by rough calculation.

Tommy Boy, the releasing label, had an established history in hip-hop and dance music prior to this release, though the nature of that context's bearing on this specific project is not addressed by the available documentation.
