Booka Shade
The Sun & The Neon Light (The Vinyl Mixes)

Listening notes

Booka Shade's The Sun & The Neon Light (The Vinyl Mixes) was released in 2008 on Get Physical Music, carrying the catalog number GPMLP023. The release is formatted as a double LP, spanning four sides, and is catalogued under the genres of Electronic, House, and Minimal.

The title signals its purpose directly: these are mixes configured for vinyl playback, drawn from material associated with The Sun & The Neon Light. Each track carries a mix designation that distinguishes it from other versions in the Booka Shade catalog. Side A opens with "Outskirts (Babelsberg Mix)" followed by "Dusty Boots (High At Noon Mix)." Side B presents "Control Me (Non Vocal Mix)" and "Duke (Arrival Mix)." Side C moves through "Charlotte (Extended Mix)" and "Redemption (Factory Mix)," while Side D closes the record with "Sweet Lies (Spotlight Mix)" and "Monkey On My Deck (Studio Version)."

The mix names themselves are varied in character — some geographical or evocative in tone, such as the Babelsberg Mix and the High At Noon Mix, while others describe functional alterations to the source material, as with the Non Vocal Mix. The Studio Version designation on the final track sets it apart from the remix-oriented framing of the surrounding tracks, though no further information about the distinctions between these versions is included in the verified data for this release.

Get Physical Music, the Berlin-based label on which this release appeared, was the home imprint for Booka Shade at the time of publication. The double LP format accommodates the eight-track sequence across four sides without track durations listed in the available documentation.
