The Broken Vinyl Club

Listening notes

The Broken Vinyl Club released their self-titled debut on Acid Jazz in 2011. The CD edition carries the catalog number AJXCD272 and collects twelve tracks across a range of styles that the label categorized as blues, funk and soul, neo soul, pop, and RnB and swing.

Acid Jazz, the London-based independent label, has since its founding in the late 1980s maintained a roster oriented around soul, jazz, and funk, making it a fitting home for a project working within these traditions. The Broken Vinyl Club's alignment with that catalog places them in recognized company on the label.

The album's twelve tracks are "Every Inch," "She Just Keeps Me Waiting," "All In Your Head," "Hiding From The Truth," "One Way Street," "She's Tired," "I Want You Girl," "Horror Show," "In My Mind," "You Help Me," "Spin Around," and "Brave Captain." Track durations are not confirmed in the available documentation and are omitted here accordingly.

The genre classifications associated with the record suggest a project drawing on a fairly wide range of reference points within Black American music traditions and their British interpretations, a combination that has long been a hallmark of the Acid Jazz aesthetic. Whether the album leans more heavily toward any one of those listed categories is something a listener would need to assess directly; the available data does not support a more specific characterization.

This entry covers only the CD format. Whether additional formats were issued has not been confirmed in the materials available for this draft, and any such claims would require independent verification before publication.
