Da Sampla
West Side Sessions

Listening notes

Da Sampla's West Side Sessions, released on Wild Oats in 2012 under catalog number WO-SH8K, is a double vinyl release spanning four sides and eight tracks. The record sits at the intersection of electronic, house, and techno, the three genres under which it is catalogued.

The tracklist has a few notable structural features worth flagging for collectors and cataloguers. The A-side opens with "Pursuit Mix 3" followed by "Pursuit Mix 2," a sequencing that places the higher-numbered mix before the lower, which may reflect an intentional programming choice or simply the order in which the material was arranged for the format. No durations are documented for any of the eight tracks.

Side C introduces "G.J." at the C1 position, followed by "G.J. Locked Groove" at C2, a pairing that mirrors the structure of Side D, where "Frictional Beat #6 (KMFH 808 DUB)" at D1 is followed by "FRCT Beat #6 Locked Groove" at D2. The locked groove tracks on both C2 and D2 are a physical format feature, though no further documentation about their content or length is available in the verified data. The D1 track title references both KMFH and an 808, though no additional personnel or production information is confirmed here and those references should not be interpreted beyond what the title itself states.

The B-side carries "Over" at B1 and the plainly titled "Track 4" at B2. No explanation for the generic title is documented, and it should be noted as such rather than assumed to be a placeholder or an intentional stylistic choice.

Wild Oats is listed as the releasing label. No additional label details, pressing information, or distribution data are available in the verified record for this release. This draft should be reviewed against any supplementary source material before publication.
