DJ Sona
DJ Sona: Ultimate Concert Vinyl

Listening notes

Released in 2019 through iam8bit under catalog number 8BIT-8112, DJ Sona: Ultimate Concert Vinyl brings music from the League of Legends universe to the physical format. The release collects tracks associated with DJ Sona, a cosmetic skin for the in-game champion Sona that was accompanied by original electronic music compositions.

The single LP is organized across two sides with distinct purposes. Side A presents original edits of the three core tracks — Kinetic, Concussive, and Ethereal — running at 3:54, 4:31, and 4:13 respectively, followed by a fourth track identified as Sona Demo (Unreleased Base Material) at 2:44. The inclusion of that demo track distinguishes this release as something beyond a straightforward reissue of previously available material. Side B then offers extended mixes of the same three compositions, with Kinetic running 6:58, Concussive at 7:18, and Ethereal closing the record at 7:34. The extended versions collectively allow each track considerably more room than their Side A counterparts.

The release falls under the genres of Electronic, Stage and Screen, Trance, and Video Game Music — a combination that reflects both the origins of the material and its stylistic range across the three named compositions. Each of the three main tracks was designed to represent a different sonic persona within the original DJ Sona skin concept, though the specifics of their compositional differences are not elaborated upon here.

Iam8bit, the label behind this release, has a documented history of producing vinyl editions of video game music. This release carries their standard catalog numbering format.
