Drums & Tuba
Vinyl Killer

Listening notes

Drums & Tuba released Vinyl Killer on Righteous Babe Records in 2001, catalogued as RBR023-D. The release appeared on CD and has been classified under the genres of Electronic, Leftfield, and Rock — a combination that situates the group in a space resistant to easy categorization.

The album carries thirteen tracks and a total runtime that spans considerable ground, ranging from the brief "Territory" at one minute and fifty-nine seconds and "Carlos The Cat" at one minute and fifty-seven seconds, to the extended closer "No Accommodation For Buffalo," which runs eight minutes and thirty-one seconds. That closing track represents the longest piece on the record by a significant margin, suggesting a deliberate structural choice to end on an expansive note, though the nature of that choice remains a matter for the listener to assess.

The tracklist includes titles that resist obvious interpretation: "The Donkey And The Walrus," "The 10 Attacks Of Dagger," "Chapeau Russia," and "Prince Meets The Phantom" among them. Whether these titles reflect a consistent conceptual framework or simply an idiosyncratic approach to naming is not established by the available documentation.

Righteous Babe Records, the Buffalo-based independent label founded by Ani DiFranco, served as the releasing body. The catalog number RBR023-D places Vinyl Killer within the label's documented output from that period.
